Choosing the Right Toilet

So you're thinking about buying a toilet. Congratulations! You've just made a big decision. Before ordering, it's important to take some time to consider all of your options first. We're here to help with that process by providing a brief guide on choosing the right toilet for your home.

Take a look at the specs

While there are many factors to consider when you're choosing a toilet, it's important to first know what you want and need.

What space is available?

If you're planning on installing your new toilet in an existing bathroom, take note of the space that is available. Consider other ways in which your current layout could be modified, where the plumbing connects, etc. The worst is coming home with a brand new throne and it doesn’t fit or connect.

Make sure you keep things comfy

Remember who is using your bathroom, and if they have any specific requirements regarding their own comfort level while using it. This should help determine what kind(s) of features might be best suited for you; however keep in mind that everyone has different needs so try not get too attached!

Do you need any additional tools or piping to install?

If you aren’t sure, that’s ok! Chat with one of our experts to decide if you are going to need any additional supplies before shutting off all water to your home and finding out you need to make another trip.

Consider your lifestyle.

Say no thanks to bacteria hiding spots

If you have small children in the house, look for toilets that are easy to clean. The best way to do this is by choosing a round bowl design with smooth edges and no crevices where bacteria can hide out. This will make cleaning much easier since there aren't any corners or grooves where grime can hide out.

Is a “long” toilet right for your family?

If you have a large family or multiple people using one bathroom, look for an elongated toilet instead (the elongated ones are also known as "long" toilets). The larger size of these models means they'll be able to hold more waste before needing to be flushed again!

Look for features.

You keep a toilet for awhile, so now might be the time to get some special features added in! Here are some to consider:

  • Heated seats. During those brutal Michigan winters, this will be an added comfort.
  • Auto-flush. It can save water and keep things cleaner by automatically flushing after each use (if you don't want it enabled all the time, choose "single flush" mode).
  • Bidet. Built-in bidet sprayer/water saving dual flush option on top of regular flushing action—these two options make getting clean easier than ever before!
  • Soft close lids. No more hearing toilet lids slamming for you again! This small feature makes a big difference in the peace in your home

Think about the future.

Questions to consider

How long will you be living in this home? Are there any plans for an addition or renovation that might involve remodeling or adding on a bathroom? If so, then it's best to purchase a toilet that can be easily adapted to suit your needs now and later on down the road when changes in space become necessary.

If not, then perhaps it doesn't matter so much which type of toilet is installed. However, if you are planning ahead for future additions or renovations (and who isn't?), then it may make sense for you to purchase a traditional gravity fed system rather than an electric one since these types of toilets are easier on plumbing lines and less likely to cause problems when adapting them after construction has begun elsewhere through out your home.

To Recap

Choosing the right toilet is a big decision. It's one of those things that you don't really think about until it's time to buy one, but once you've got one, it becomes an integral part of your home. You're going to be sitting on it every day (literally). This means that you need to know what kind of toilet will work best for your lifestyle—whether that means getting a low-flush model or spending extra money on heated seats.

It's important to remember that there are many options available and not all toilets are created equal. By doing research on what features are most important to you and your family, you can find a toilet that will last for years without breaking the bank!
